It’s not hard to see that our modern diets have changed massively from those that were consumed by our ancestors. Whether you look at the sheer capacity of food freely available or the amount of industrial and chemical products that make up processed junk food, it’s easy to see how we could arrive at an obesity epidemic. People are becoming hugely overweight, ballooning to sizes that previously would have been deemed impossible, yet our modern diets facilitate this by being convenient and tasty over laborious and nutritious.

It’s Natural to Crave

Many dieters don’t make it to the end of their short session without a ‘cheat’ or two, this is one reason why dieting often fails, after all diet doesn’t mean a 2 week stretch it means what you consume throughout your life. Cravings can really eat away at us physically and psychologically, but this makes sense because our bodies want energy in the form of calories and sugary foods are rich in them. It’s just like the urge to use the toilet when your bladder is full, though it would be foolish, messy and deadly to supress that urge for a fortnight. Our brains are meant so send these signals and our tongues are meant to enjoy them as we eat them, the problem is today’s food is overloaded with sugar, so much that we just can’t keep up. Exercise will only get us so far, what we really need is a long term sugar alternative.

Though the world was once convinced by the sugar companies that fat was everybody’s biggest enemy in their diet, studies have shown often that sugar itself is actually responsible for people getting bigger. The quick fix of course here was artificial sweetener which seemed to patch things up rapidly like an edible puncture repair kit, but similarly to fixing a tyre this is not a suitable long term solution. Sweeteners all come with their own side effects and putting chemicals into your body at such a pace is never a great idea.
